Sophia Hou

2026 Scholar

Sophia Hou is a sophomore at Newark Academy. She was a Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge Top 30 finalist and earned second place nationally in engineering for her project on Vigna radiata germination under heat stress. At school, she serves as class president, sits on the Artificial Intelligence Committee, and founded the Women in STEM club to mentor younger students. Sophia writes for the STEM journal and leads an initiative creating low-cost STEM kits to improve STEM education accessibility. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, art, swimming, and exploring with her microscope.
