Sebastian Mercado
Sebastian Mercado is a senior at the Cumberland County Technical Education Center. He is a member of his school's Engineering program and is a National Honors Society and National Technical Honors Society member. A dual enrollment student at Rowan College of South Jersey, he will receive an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts alongside his high school diploma. His main interests in STEM are in mechanical and electrical engineering. In the future, Sebastian hopes to use a STEM education to develop 21st century systems and technologies that will allow social services to better serve individuals and families facing poverty. Outside of STEM, Sebastian volunteers for numerous community organizations. Along with his younger brother, Sebastian is the founder and organizer of his town’s annual “Pasta Party,” where he has raised thousands of dollars and pounds of food for the Vineland Soup Kitchen. He has been recognized by local, state, and federal officials for his volunteerism. Sebastian is also a Captain of the Vineland High School Cross Country and Track & Field teams, as well as an active member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.
