Mauricio Sanchez is a junior at Union County Magnet High School. As a mentor for his school’s FIRST Robotics Competition Electronics Team, he has worked closely with other students around New Jersey in engineering; his team qualifying for Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. His main STEM interests lie in electrical and aerospace engineering. Mauricio is also founder of his schools SHPE (Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers) JR chapter, a society focusing on diversifying the STEM field and empowering the Hispanic community through STEM. He is also an alumnus from Rice University's Aerospace and Aviation Academy where he met with NASA employees and experts in the aerospace field as well as being the project manager for the Atmospheric Payload workshop. Outside of school Mauricio loves playing volleyball and is co-founder and drummer of his friend groups band "Bête noire," where he performs shows to raise money for organizations like his local YMCA.
