Alexandra Sun, Ph.D.

Alexandra Sun is a research chemist at Merck & Co., where she is designing innovative automation and high-throughput experimentation tools for drug development. Alex obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from Brandeis University and recently completed her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Michigan. Alex was a recipient of the 2016 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and has co-authored several papers in the field of photoredox catalysis.
Pursuing her passion for STEM outreach, Alex has served as a co-President of F.E.M.M.E.S. (Women+ Excelling More in Math, Engineering and the Sciences) at the University of Michigan, where she led the organization of STEM outreach programs for 400+ students (4th-12th grades) across Southeast Michigan. She has also led the development of a “Green Chemistry & Catalysis” laboratory course as part of the Michigan Math and Science Scholars Program and served as a STEM tutor for Boston Partners in Education.
